Signpost assignments are skill checks as we go along in this course. Due dates and assignment names are posted daily in the Homework Log (go to the "HOME" page of the wiki and click on the comic-book speaking bubbles in the top right-hand corner). Any extra information you need will be posted here.
Microsoft Excel
(The Term Four Topic!) Great thanks to James D. Cochrane, who created most of these exercises. Please note: while all items (except notes) will be collected, not all are for marks. However, all students are expected to complete Guided Practice (where available)before Independent Practice is attempted. This is for the students' own benefit--it's much easier to do things on your own when you've practiced together, first.
Lesson 1: Form and Function
Definitions and Anatomy of a Spreadsheet (notes)
Guided Practice: Spreadsheet Formatting (teacher does, students "play along")
Here are some notes about scripts, including a sample--the script from the Coke commercial above. Please make sure your script follows the instructions (this means you have to read them!).
Here is the blank storyboard sheet. Make a storyboard for the first 10 seconds of the Coke commercial above. This is a signpost assignment. You will need more than one copy of this sheet for your script storyboard.
This is the original Shot Types powerpoint, for study purposes.
And here is a sample quiz, so you can try it out: sample quiz
Programming signposts were included in the programming assignment (under required goals).
Word assignments
The following TEN Word assignments will help you develop your Word skills. These are SIGNPOST assignments, so they do NOT need to be added to your e-portfolio. Instead, you will hand them in! All of the following are due ON OR BEFORE November 26. (The sooner, the better, of course!).
As assigned by our guest speaker Thursday, October 3 and Friday, October 4.
Here is a copy of the assignment, along with a sample powerpoint presentation. The rubric is also here. READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY!!
This project must be ready to go on OCTOBER 15--right after Thanksgiving. You must send me your PowerPoint that day, and random names will be drawn for presentations. Your slideshow should be only a few slides (no more than 8) and your presentation must last 2-3 minutes.

Internet Research Sources
You're going to be using your computer for YEARS for your education. When you punch your topic into Google, how do you know that the sites that come up are worth using as research sources? What sites can you trust?
Here are the notes on the CARS test and taking your info to the CAFE.
Alternate assignment:
For those of you who did not do as well as you'd hoped on the Design Assignments (part A and part B), you have the opportunity to show me your mad skillz (and make up the mark). This assignment is completely optional. It is out of 12 marks, and will replace the lower of your part A and B assignment marks. (If you already have 12/12 on both, there is no point in doing this one!) If you do WORSE on this assignment, your mark will not get lower. You keep the best 2 out of the 3 marks. Due date (and no lates will be accepted) 8:10 AM, Monday, September 30. (You may email me the electronic portion over the weekend, but the physical samples MUST BE IN MY HAND-IN BOX BY 8:10 MONDAY MORNING, so I can show them to Mrs. Salter that day.)
The best design(s) will likely be printed on card stock and distributed to 1000 students. Please show off your best work!
